Case Study Essential Marketer
Bernie De Souza’s personality profiling skills have enabled the staff at Bromsgrove-based website marketing company Essential Marketer to communicate better with their customers and each other.

Towards the end of 2009, Essential Marketer managing director Steve Feeney asked Bernie to provide profiles of his staff.

"I thought it would benefit the team and improve communication with our clients," recalls Feeney.

Bernie provided profiles for each member of Essential Marketer's staff, then showed each member of the team their colleagues’ profiles which enabled everyone to find out more about their workmates and how they might be able to communicate with one another in a more harmonious way."

"We realised we each had complimentary skills and that some people's personalities make them more capable to deal with certain facets of the business than others," said Mr Feeney.

"It is about developing interpersonal relationships and learning the appropriate style of language to use depending on who you are speaking to.

"If you’re talking to a quiet person, you shouldn’t try to press them into 'yes' or 'no' answers because they may find it intimidating. If you are communicating with an extrovert, decision maker they can handle things easier. These are invaluable skills so we can communicate better as a team and handle our clients in a more appropriate and positive way."

The most tangible result for Essential Marketer has been more business.

"We have more high profile customers than in the past and that is down to the confidence of our team to communicate the benefits of our services in a more effective way. We are getting more customers saying 'yes' because we are dealing with them in the right way."
